Dated 24th September 2019

Pilning and Severn Beach Parish Council have decided to budget and invest more work which will be carried out at Northwick Cemetery (Formerly St Thomas Churchyard) over the new few years, it has been maintained for many years by the Parish council.

Lately there has been a lot of interest for families to bury their loved ones within this beautiful and active burial ground, and as much as the rustic setting is a magnet to wildlife and beauty, the Parish Council want to make sure it remains a facility to the local community for many years to follow, while protecting any wildlife in the process.

The churchyard / cemetery is positioned right next to a grade II listed monument, The Tower, which will eventually need work carried out on it. We will be looking at ways to raise funds to get this work done, this will be done separately.

The work that the Parish Council proposes to get done will involve reducing, crowing, pollarding or coppicing the trees along the perimeter of the burial ground. This work will allow more light to enter this area and to maintain the health of the trees too.

There is overgrowth to the ditch, which has only recently been exposed thanks to the local contractors who look after this site.

None of the graves or headstones will be affected by any work, and the site is not being sold, this is an active burial ground so any work which is carried out within the grounds will be at all times done with dignity and respect to those buried within the area.

The work has not yet been appointed, this will be an ongoing process, we will do everything to make sure the members of the public are informed, we will do this by making this notice visible around the burial ground, on notice boards and the Parish Councils website.

There are two established trees situated on top of two graves dating back many years, we hope to try and contact any of the family members, these trees will need to be cut down.

Please if you have any questions, if you want to donate towards the Northwick Tower restoration Fund or if you see something you wish to report please call the Cemetery Clerk: Odile (DEL) McIntosh 01454 201205 or 07796190794
