Statement regarding former railway land at Severn Beach station

22/03/2023 – Pilning & Severn Beach Parish Council wish to make a clear and unequivocal statement that the works next to Severn Beach railway station were being undertaken by the landowner alone.

The police responded to a call from a resident, as the activity contravened the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 regarding nesting birds. The police were able to stop any further work taking place.

The police also spoke to the Parish Council Chairman Peter Tyzack saying that the contractor had given them his name and that the Parish Council had agreed to them clearing the land. No such approach was made or agreement given. The land is not owned by the Parish Council and therefore it has no power to give any such permission.

There is no planning application on this land at present, although it has been submitted as a potential site for development for various uses, including a car park, through South Gloucestershire Council’s "Call for sites" scheme.
